Fiber Spunlacing

Spunlacing with high pressure technology

Fiber Spunlacing

Spunlacing by high-pressure technology joins natural or man-made fibres into mats with specific properties. The mats of fibres produced in this way are basic materials for many everyday consumer goods such as paper tissues, napkin inserts, filter paper, face masks or clothing and automotive fabrics.

The high-pressure water required is supplied by URACA pumps, whose operating pressure and flow rate can be precisely adjusted by means of speed regulation. Over many years, these energy-efficient displacement pumps have proven their worth all over the world.

Our advantages

  • URACA pumps are world leaders in this field
  • The technique has been proven over many years
  • Reliable and durable pump technology
  • high quality materials prevent contamination
  • Flow rate precisely adjustable by speed regulation
  • Technology available for small and large plants
  • High efficiency pumps
  • reliable spare parts supply over many years
  • tailor-made, customized solutions

Mode of operation of spunlacing

In the first step of fiber spunlacing, natural or man-made fibers are laid out to a fleece and prepared for the process. Fibers may be, for example, cotton fibers, viscose fibers or mixed fibers. High-pressure water join the fibers in a special component of the spunlacing system. Nozzle beams supplied with high pressure water produce the required water jets. Processed drinking water or demineralized water can be used as circulation medium in circulation operation. After the fibers are joined, the fleece is dried. The finished mats of fibers can have very different properties. These mats form the basis for many utility and hygiene goods.

In order to manufacture products of consistent quality, constant and reproducible operating conditions are a prerequisite. Pumping capacity and operating pressure of the jet water must be precisely adjustable. Different products require specific configurations because no two processes are the same.

The number of nozzle beams and the operating pressure in the spray bars are different in each plant. Typical pressures are between 50 and 250 bar. Processes such as the production of geo mat of fibres require pressures of up to 400 bar. Modern machines can achieve production speeds of up to 400 m / min with a mat of fibre width of up to 6.5 meters.

Impurities in the high-pressure water must absolutely be avoided, therefore, gland housings, plungers and valves are made of high quality materials such as stainless steel, ceramic or bronze.

Fibre spunlacing form the basic material for consumer goods and hygiene goods such as diaper inserts, paper tissues, sterile swabs or filter paper. Other applications include face masks, cleaning cloths, floor coverings or fabrics for functional clothing, for example. In the automotive industry, many headliners in vehicles are made of a spunlaced mat of fibres. A so-called geo mat of fibres is used in civil engineering, waterways and traffic infrastructure.
